St Alban’s Catholic Primary School Forming confident children, grounded in humility, bound by respect.

  • R.E. (Religious Education)

At St Albans Catholic Primary School, Religious Education lies at the heart of our curriculum and school life. As a Catholic school, we aim to nurture each child’s relationship with God, deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and support them in living out Gospel values in their daily lives.

Our Religious Education curriculum is shaped by the Religious Education Directory (RED): To Know You More Clearly, which places the person of Christ at the centre of learning. Through the study of Sacred Scripture, Catholic Tradition and the teachings of the Church, children are encouraged to encounter, understand and respond to God's call in their lives.

We deliver the curriculum using the Day by Day resources, which support the aims of the RED through engaging, knowledge-rich lessons rooted in scripture, prayer and theological understanding. Learning is carefully sequenced to help children make meaningful connections between biblical narratives, Catholic beliefs, liturgy and their own lived experience.

The RED promotes a curriculum built around the three distinct yet interconnected areas of study:

    • Hear - engaging with the word of God through Scripture.
    • Believe - developing understanding of Catholic doctrine and the teachings of the Church.
    • Celebrate - exploring prayer, liturgy, sacramental life and the Church's traditions.

Through Religious Education, pupils are encouraged to ask questions, reflect deeply, think critically and develop respect for the beliefs and experiences of others. Alongside learning about the Catholic faith, children also develop an understanding of other world religions and faith traditions, fostering compassion, respect and a sense of global citizenship.

Rooted in our mission and values, Religious Education inspires our children to recognise their unique dignity as children of God and to live lives of faith, service and love.

Parents and Carers have the right to withdraw children from all or part of RE learning.
