St Alban’s Catholic Primary School Forming confident children, grounded in humility, bound by respect.

Art

At St Albans, we believe that art is a powerful way for children to express themselves, explore their creativity and develop an appreciation of the world around them. Through an engaging and inspiring curriculum, pupils are encouraged to experiment, take risks and develop confidence in their own artistic abilities.

Our Art and Design curriculum is delivered through the Kapow Primary Art and Design scheme, which aims to inspire pupils and develop their confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art. The curriculum is designed to give children opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge across a range of artistic disciplines, including drawing, painting and mixed media, sculpture and 3D art, craft and design, and digital art.

Children explore the work of a diverse range of artists, craftspeople and designers from different cultures, backgrounds and periods of history. Through studying significant works of art and creating their own pieces, pupils develop the skills to evaluate, analyse and discuss art using appropriate vocabulary.

Our curriculum encourages creativity, individuality and self-expression while ensuring the progressive development of key artistic skills and techniques. Through practical experiences and reflective discussions, children learn to appreciate both the creative process and the value of artistic achievement.
